Description

The museum, which opened to visitors in 2018, displays artefacts in four areas: Archaeological, Urban Memory, Foyer, and Garden. The Archaeological Hall features items from various historical periods, including the Chalcolithic, Early Bronze, Middle Bronze, Late Bronze/Early Iron, Middle Iron (Urartu), Hellenistic, Roman, Eastern Roman, Seljuk, and Ottoman periods. The Archaeological Hall exhibits unique items, such as the Luster Ibrik, Shah-Armens Coin, and the Sistrum, which provide information on culture, art, lifestyle, and belief systems of their respective periods. These items take visitors on a historical journey and arouse a sense of curiosity and excitement. The Urban Memory Hall contains panels with information about the states that ruled in Ahlat, including the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Türkiye. It also features information on Seljuk Square Cemetery and Ruins, a wax statue of Sultan Alparslan, and visuals related to the Battle of Manzikert. The Foyer Area exhibits Ram sarcophagi from the Aq Qoyunlu period and stamps of Oghuz Turks. Meanwhile, the garden exhibition area displays stone works, inscriptions, architectural pieces, cubes, and tombstones from the Islamic period. In the Urban Memory Hall, visitors can witness the scenes of the Battle of Manzikert and the sermon of Sultan Alparslan, offering the opportunity to witness the 'Manzikert Victory of August 26, 1071'. The hall, which features a wax sculpture of Sultan Alp Arslan, is ready to welcome visitors and evoke national emotions.
