Description

The Ethnography Museum of Bitlis opened in 2005 and displays textiles, hand embroidery, ornaments, copper threads, coins, and ethnographic items from the region's recent history (generally the Late Ottoman Period and the Republican Period). The museum building is constructed with Ahlat stone, in compliance with the local characteristics of the region, giving it a natural appearance. The artifacts are exhibited in two areas. The museum exhibits ethnographic works on the upper floor and stone works in the garden. These pieces showcase the local people's lifestyle, as well as the social, religious, technical, and scientific characteristics of the period. Additionally, the museum features a collection of jewelry, with bracelets and belts being the most notable pieces. The museum garden displays ornamental stones, hand-mills, and gravestones that are part of the region's architectural heritage.
