Titus Tunnel The Titus Tunnel, located in Samandağ, is an impressive structure due to its length and height. Its construction using manual labour adds to its allure. The tunnel was started during the reign of Roman Emperor Vespasianus in the 1st century AD and completed during the reign of his son, Emperor Titus. Carved entirely inside the bedrock, the tunnel measures 1,380 meters in length, 7 meters in height, and 6 meters in width. It is closed for a distance of 130 meters. The purpose of its construction was to protect the port from alluvion and prevent the city from flooding by diverting flood waters. Beşikli Cave And Rock Tombs The Rock Tombs of Beşikli were created during the Roman period. The tombs are entirely carved out of rock and decorated with a pillared entrance. Inside, there are 12 tombs, including two side by side in the burial chamber, each with an ornamented coffin of the same size.
