The museum building, situated in the Silifke district of Saray, was constructed as a residence in 1914 utilising wood and stone materials. Following its expropriation in 1982, the bulding was restored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and opened on the 2nd of January 1987 as the Atatürk House and Ethnography Museum. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk visited Silifke on four occasions, during which he undertook work to establish cooperatives and farms, as well as his domestic travels. On his first visit to Silifke on 27 January 1925, Atatürk stayed in this house. All the belongings of the room he stayed in, documents related to the establishment of a co-operative, photographs of his visit and newspaper articles are exhibited in the museum. Additionally, the museum houses a collection of local ethnographic items.
