Description

The Ahmed Gazi Madrasah, constructed in 1375, is situated within the ruins of Beçin Castle. It is the only surviving structure in Beçin with an inscription from the original construction period. Following restoration, the building has been converted into the Stone Works Museum. The museum comprises nine rooms, two corridors and one courtyard. It houses 35 stone artefacts. The stone works exhibited are divided into two sections, representing the Principalities Period and the Ottoman Period, and are classified chronologically within each period. The Ahmed Gazi Madrasah is one of a group of madrasahs with a single storey, open courtyard (without portico) and two iwan, with the entrance iwan being the most common during the Seljuk and Principalities periods. In the madrasah, 25 ethnographic artefacts are exhibited in the educational rooms, which address themes such as education, dead burial traditions, miniatures of Anatolian madrasah examples, and an animation room. In the main iwan of the madrasah, there is the tomb of Ahmet Gazi, the founder of the madrasah, and another tomb of an unknown person.
