Description

On 22 December 1919, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, accompanied by the Committee of Representation (Heyet-i Temsiliye), visited Hacıbektaş on their way to Ankara after the Sivas Congress. The delegation arrived in the Mucur district of Kırşehir on 21 December and proceeded to Hacıbektaş on 22 December 1919, accompanied by Cevat Bey, Governor of Mucur District. Mustafa Kemal and the members of the delegation were hosted by Çelebi Cemalettin Efendi. Mustafa Kemal Pasha spent the night in this house and the following day visited Hacıbektaş Dergah and Salih Niyazi Baba, who was seated in a Dedebaba chair. At the meetings held at Hacıbektaş Dergahı and Çelebi Cemalettin Efendi’s house, the struggle for independence of the country was discussed. The Alevi-Bektashis provided full support to the struggle for independence. Mustafa Kemal and his associates reached Ankara with the assistance of the Anatolian populace in the "liberation march," which they initiated from Samsun. In 1991, the residence of Çelebi Cemalettin Efendi was expropriated and subsequently opened to the public as a museum in 2001. The edifice is dated to the second half of the 19th century and was constructed using mudbrick. The house displays a simple yet elegant Turkish workmanship, exemplified by the intricate wood embroidery adorning its interior. Constructed on two storeys, the house comprises a library and exhibition hall on the ground floor, while the first floor houses the main room where Atatürk is hosted, a study room, and a bedroom.
