This house, located on Devegörmez Street in Tokat city centre, belonged to Captain Mustafa Vasfi SÜSOY, one of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's comrades-in-arms. Mustafa Vasfi SÜSOY (1876-1934) was a soldier who served as Atatürk's Staff Officer during the Gallipoli War and the War of Independence. He was with him on the Bandırma Ferry, served as Tokat MP for four terms after the foundation of the Republic, was always close to Atatürk, and supported his work and ideas. This mansion was expropriated in 2001, allocated to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2003, and opened to visitors under the name of "Tokat Atatürk House and Ethnography Museum" in 2007 after restoration and exhibition arrangements were made.
Known to have been built in the second half of the 19th century, the house has a mezzanine and two floors over the entrance. The building was constructed in a two-faced, inner-floor plan type, which can be transformed into two separate houses, one facing the street and the other facing the garden, by separating the sofas on the ground floor and the first floor with double winged doors.
Atatürk visited Tokat six times during the years of the National Struggle and the Republican Period and stayed in this house on three of his visits. During his second visit, Atatürk was accompanied by Latife Hanım and they stayed in this house for two nights.
After the death of Mustafa Vasfi SÜSOY, the owner of the house, in 1934, the items used in this house were collected and preserved in a room of the house. After the house was converted into a museum, the items known to have been personally used by Atatürk were placed in their places. Other parts of the house were organised with the items that can be found in a Tokat house and the house was transformed into a living house.
The room opening to the entrance hall, which is known to be a gift of Atatürk to the owner of the house and where the sunbed he used during his stay was organised under the name of "Atatürk’s Coffee Room". On the first floor overlooking the garden, there is a table where Atatürk had a meal during his stay in this house. A room opening to the same hall is organised under the name of "Atatürk's Bedroom" and contains the bedstead used by Atatürk. In addition, photographs taken in different parts of the city during Atatürk's visits to Tokat are hung on the walls of the house.
