Troy is one of the most famous ancient cities in the world. The 9 layers of Troy show more than 3000 years of uninterrupted occupation and allow us to follow the civilisations that have settled in this unique geography where Anatolia, the Aegean and the Balkans meet. It has always played an important role in terms of trade and cultural links with other regions. The earliest settlement in Troy dates back to the Early Bronze Age (3000-2500 BC). The city was inhabited throughout antiquity until the end of the Roman period. The uninterrupted stratigraphy of Troy serves as a reference for other archaeological sites in Europe and the Aegean. First excavated in 1871 by Heinrich Schliemann, later by W. Dörpfeld and C.W. Blegen, excavations are still continuing in this magnificent archaeological city.
