Description

The Sogut Ertugrul Gazi Museum was first established in 1973 by collecting ethnographic artifacts from villages in Sogut, Bilecik, and Eskisehir. The artifacts were initially preserved in the warehouse of the Eskişehir Archaeological Museum and later moved to Sogut after the museum's construction was completed. The museum opened on 12 September 1981 in a building opposite the Ertugrul Gazi Tomb and was relocated to its current building in 2001. The Museum building was originally constructed as a 'Winding House' by the mayor of the municipality, Memis Aga, in the early 20th century. The building is believed to have functioned as a dispensary or health centre for a period of time. The three-storey building is a fine example of woodwork. The exhibition hall on the top floor of the museum showcases a variety of items reflecting the culture of the peripheries of Sogut and Bilecik. These include clothing, woven products such as carpets, rugs, and saddles, weapons, weighing instruments, and various everyday items. Visitors cill have the chance to witness history at the museum in Sogut, the birthplace of the Ottoman Empire.
